STAINLESS STEEL M10 TOW POST & HOOK KIT
Our VX220 M10 Tow Post Kit was designed and made with longevity in mind. Upgraded in almost all aspects over the original.
The standard VX220 toe post was made from 1mm thick mild steel tube. The original tow hook was made from a zinc plated bolt with a metal ring welded on the end. It was made to suit an M8 thread.
There were a couple of longevity issues with this design.
Design: By using the small M8 thread size if you applied excessive lateral load onto the tow hook it would bend, deform and most probably snap the thread, if your lucky you could catch it before it snapped off inside the tow post. The ring used was also a mild steel ring which stretched when being used.
Materials: Made from mild steel and being at the front of the car it got the brunt of all the bad weather and after a time it would rust and look unsightly but more importantly made the unit weak.
Strength: Having only 3 mounting points holding it on when you were towing the car round a corner the lateral forces would twist and rotate the tow post around the top centre bolt. The only thing stopping this rotation are the lower fixings, when rusty this rotational strain will become too much and the feet of the post will snap and will vacate the front crashbox taking parts of your front clam with it leaving you potentially thousands out of pocket!
- 30mm O/D with a 2mm wall thickness
- 15mm solid bar with a machined M10 thread
- 5x M8 mounting points
- 3mm laser cut base plate
- 3mm laser cut top plate
- 60mm x 10mm Steel Ring tested to 5600 kg before they deform
- Threaded sleeve with M10 male thread.
All materials are 304 Stainless Steel with 308L filler
